Nestoria quits Google Maps after ‘bankrupting’ charges

Property search engine Nestoria has announced that it is dropping GoogleMaps in favour of OpenStreetMap.

The move follows Google’s decision to start charging commercial websites for using their maps if they exceed certain bandwidth allowances.

Ed Freyfogle, founder of Nestoria, writes in a blog that the Google sales rep quoted a price that would have bankrupted the company. He also says that OpenStreetMap is at least as good, if not better.

Well, maybe they are, but EAT would be interested to know what you think.

OpenStreetMap is certainly an interesting concept, as it is free, and is both contributed and editable by users.
